Recurrent training is required for anyone who has already undergone initial training, which is required by federal and international regulations. The United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) legally requires that anyone involved in the process of handling or transporting hazardous materials by ground in commerce must undergo initial and/or recurrent training before they can legally handle, ship, or otherwise have anything to do with such materials. This means they must know and stay current on how to comply with all the regulations prescribed in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) - specifically, the sections collectively known as the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).

These regulations provide stipulations for precisely how dangerous goods must be classified, identified, packed, marked and labeled, documented, placarded, and segregated during the process of shipping dangerous goods by ground. Complying with these regulations is not a choice for hazmat employers and employees, nor is undergoing recurrent training to update and refresh their understanding of these regulations. Recurrent training is required by law in order to continue to prevent potentially disastrous hazardous materials incidents that can endanger property, health, our environment, and the security of the transportation system.

Hazmat University’s 49 CFR (DOT Ground) Training - Recurrent provides required recurrent training to participants involved with shipping, receiving, handling and storage of hazardous materials by ground transport while in commerce. Hazardous materials recurrent training is based on the requirements outlined in the United States Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR). Employees who have undergone initial and recurrent training in the past are required by law to undergo recurrent training at least once every three years, and Hazmat University provides this option in order to comply with this requirement.

If you have yet to undergo any training, Hazmat University also provides the option of 49 CFR (DOT Ground) Training – Initial.
