This course provides required initial training to participants involved with shipping Dangerous Goods by Air and by Vessel. Dangerous Goods by Air training is based on the requirements outlined in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, (IATA) International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations and the (ICAO) International Civil Aviation Organization’s Technical Instructions. Hazardous Materials by Ground training is based on the requirements outlined in the United States Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR). Dangerous Goods by Vessel training is based on the requirements outlined in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG).

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Properly classify substances and articles to their proper class
  • Assign substances and articles to an appropriate proper shipping name
  • Select the correct packaging for the dangerous goods being shipped
  • Select and apply the correct markings and labeling for the material being shipped
  • Correctly complete a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods and Air Waybill for the dangerous good(s) being shipped
  • Correctly complete the shipping paper required for the transportation of Hazardous Materials by Ground
  • Correct complete the transport document as outlined by the IMDG
  • Understand the requirements for security and emergency response as they relate to shipments of dangerous goods
  • Understand the requirements for training as required by the appropriate national authorities
  • Download and print a certificate of training upon successful completion of the course

This course is intended for shippers (e.g. chemical manufacturers and distributors, flavors and fragrance manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, industrial manufacturers, fireworks manufacturers, oil and gas industries, etc.), freight forwarders, and emergency management practitioners. This also includes Federal departments and agencies such as government contractors, military armed forces and civilian subcontractors that are involved in shipping and transporting hazardous materials.
