Multimodal Air & Vessel Online Hazmat Training

Many hazmat employees specialize in one of the three main modes of transportation for dangerous goods - ground, vessel, or air - and they are required by Federal and international regulations to undergo training in the regulations that apply to the respective mode of transport with which they are involved. Specific employment opportunities, however, give employees responsibilities that overlap with more than one means of transportation. Working in more than one process often means having to follow more than one set of dangerous goods regulations, and certainly means having to undergo training in more than one mode.

These multimodal training requirements can complicate matters for employers and employees alike. If a hazmat employee’s position involves them in functions related to the transport of dangerous goods by both air and sea (vessel), they are required to undergo multimodal dangerous good training for both modes. Hazmat University understands this, and that is why we offer online multimodal training options. Multimodal Air and Vessel Training option combines the modules from the air and vessel courses, allowing hazmat employees to undergo both types of training at once, for less than the price of purchasing both courses separately.

This multimodal dangerous goods training course provides required initial and recurrent training to participants involved with the shipping, handling, and/or transport of multimodal dangerous goods by air and vessel. Multimodal Air and Vessel Training is based on the requirements outlined in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations (IATA DGR), and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Technical Instructions. Dangerous Goods by Vessel training is based on the requirements outlined in 49 CFR and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

Included in this course at no additional cost are General Awareness and Security Awareness.

Multimodal Dangerous Goods Course Objectives

At the end of the multimodal dangerous goods course, participants should be able to:

• Properly classify or understand the classification requirements of substances and articles according to their proper hazard class
• Assign or verify the assignment of substances and articles to an appropriate identification name and associated UN number
• Select or verify the correct packaging for the multimodal dangerous goods being shipped and understand applicable multimodal dangerous goods packing requirements
• Select or apply the correct marks, labels, and placards for the material being shipped
• Accurately complete or verify the shipping paper (shipper’s declaration for dangerous goods) requirements for the transport of dangerous goods by air and the applicable requirements for an air waybill as outlined in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, as well as the transport document required for the transport of dangerous goods by vessel as outlined in the IMDG Code
• Understand the multimodal dangerous goods requirements for security, safety, and emergency response as they relate to shipments of dangerous goods by air and vessel as required by the appropriate national and/or international authorities
• Understand the rules and procedures to be followed for segregation of multimodal dangerous goods
• Download and print a certificate of training upon successful completion of the course

This multimodal dangerous good course is intended for shippers, freight forwarders, and hazmat employees involved in the handling, shipping, and/or transport of dangerous goods by Air and Vessel.

This multimodal dangerous goods training may also be applicable to personnel of Federal departments and agencies, such as government contractors, military armed forces personnel, and civilian subcontractors that are involved in shipping and transporting hazardous materials.
